Below are a few of the organizations we've worked for. For detailed examples of our work, see our projects in basic web design, dynamic web development, and IT solutions.

University of Chicago

We built the CAILLA database, a searchable collection of indigenous language literature featuring international character set support through Unicode. We also updated the TeV-cat gamma ray source catalog to use a standard SQL database with administrative capabilities. For a University computer lab, we developed Printsys, a web-based print control system with multi-tiered user quotas and sophisticated job filtering.

Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum

Our three projects for the Adler have focused on gathering, preparing, and visualizing their data on the web. We made the 15,000-entry Webster Signatures Database dynamically searchable, and added the ability to vet user-suggested corrections and update the catalog in real time. We also implemented the Dioptrice project, which serves as a locus to gather technical data on early telescopes. For our third project with the Adler, the Herschel Calendar, we published a searchable index of a set of important historical documents never before available online.

Electronic Frontier Foundation

Our team members volunteered to help write innovative network traffic measurement software which enables engineers to detect interference in Internet connections, offering a check against DSL and Cable internet providers who might have an incentive to disrupt certain types of traffic. This technically challenging project required expertise in TCP/IP network programming and coordination with other volunteers and EFF staff.

Tensegrity Development

Tensegrity hired Parallactic as the back-end development team for five different Ruby on Rails web applications and social networking sites, including Gravityspot, Espressy, and Fly Over The City.

Open Produce

This small local grocery store needed a facelift for their web presence. We created a rich, search-engine friendly layout, featuring custom graphics, driving directions, and a WordPress blog. The store also needed an affordable point-of-sale system to ring up customers and track sales data. We combined off-the-shelf hardware components with custom software to implement a POS, including barcode scanning and Internet-based credit card processing.

Finders Keepers

As a creative small business, Finders Keepers: The Scavenger Hunt Company needed a visually exciting website. We designed a fun but functional layout incorporating JavaScript callouts, a contact form, and popout photo galleries to showcase their past events for future clients.
